Sign of the Times

World in a Mess

Eight Note

Verse One

There are people on the right side; people on the left,
People in the centre who don’t know which side is best,
They don’t know if they are leaving, they don’t know if they will stay,
And thanks to Mrs May, they no longer have a say.

Chorus

Are we blind, have we lost our minds?
Baby it’s a sign of the times.
There’s no way out, there is no way in,
Baby it’s a sign of the times.

Verse Two

And out across the desert, Arab sheiks control the lands,
Islamic ideology that we don’t understand.
The bloodied hands of Allah’s police, terror on the streets of Nice,
A hate that never goes away, preached to those who go to pray.

Chorus

Are we blind, have we lost our minds?
Baby it’s a sign of the times.
There’s no way out, there is no way in,
Baby it’s a sign of the times.

Bridge

We’re so afraid to speak our minds but sometimes it’s the only way to shine.
Cos history repeats itself, the lines we’ve drawn are hard to redefine.

Verse Three

A mindless religion that controls the way we think,
Let’s talk of evolution; let’s find the missing link,
And out across the deep blue sea, in the land of opportunity,
Trump thinks infidelity is a sign of Man’s virility.

Verse Four

They’re poisoning our water; they’re poisoning our minds,
They’re poisoning our oceans; we are running out of time,
The planets slowly dying but who will pay the price?
When there’s too much coke and not enough ice.

About the Song

I don't think there is any dispute that the world is in a mess. Fundamentalism, the high cost of living, nationalism, corrupt politicians, Brexit, climate change, pollution and religious conflicts. You simply cannot turn on the television or read a newspaper without becoming utterly depressed. Sadly I don't see things getting better. I hope that I am wrong but I don't think I will be. Heaven help us!
