Weeping Walls

Violence

Eight Note

Verse One

The floorboards are creaking,
The walls are gently weeping,
She can hear the sound of voices,
Outside in the hall,
She says that she is leaving,
Tired of his deceiving,
And once or twice receiving,
A slap across her face.

Chorus

She won’t fight back in anger,
She won’t fight back at all,
She paints her face to hide her sorrow,
Afraid of what she’ll see tomorrow.

Verse Two

Her little baby boy,
Cries himself to sleep,
He hears her through the weeping walls,
The suffering and the frantic calls,
He swears that he will someday,
Take her far away,
But just like yesterday,
There’s a price that he will pay.

Chorus

He won’t fight back in anger,
He won’t fight back at all,
He hides his face to ease his sorrow,
Afraid of what he’ll see tomorrow.

Musical Bridge

Chorus

She won’t fight back in anger,
She won’t fight back at all,
She paints her face to hide her sorrow,
Afraid of what he’ll do tomorrow.

Verse Three

She cannot talk to anyone,
She cannot breathe a word,
She believes that this is all her fault,
But isn't that absurd?
She’s terrified, she’s petrified,
Of what might lie ahead,
A lifetime filled with suffering,
Just like the good Lord said.

About the Song

Not only here in Spain but throughout the world, domestic violence is becoming more and more prevalent in our society. This was not an easy song to write and I didn't want it to be an easy song to listen to. There is a pattern to domestic violence that I have tried to represent musically in the song but also a lot of background noise that I wanted to be purposely unsettling.
